(This song has been the background music in my mind all day. Feel free to sing it in your head while you read.)
Its 10 pm and Wow wow wubbzy is playing on my tv. I am doing the final cleaning of dishes for the day. I would like this day to end early: like now. I'm done with it.
Today, I woke up to the sound of babies screeching. Always pleasant. My DH had fed and changed them, as all of my family are determinedly early risers, except moi. I got the luxury of dozing in and out of the shrieking until 8:30. Sweet.
Then, regular life took over. Change the babies, feed the fussy one again. Try to keep Matthew from pestering his dad while his dad signs charts for work on the computer. Same old, same old.
Then Evey pooped everywhere. I picked her up and noticed moistness. It wasn't pretty. It was one of those incidents where you immediately give up trying to do anything effective with a diaper wipe and you go into Defcon 5 with the fully dressed child plopped right into the bathtub. Then there is the insuing process of undressing, and attempting to extract as much poop off of the child while they are in the contained area, so to speak. Needless to say, you have to run the water, so, at the same time, you begin to have pieces of you-know-what float away in the tub. So, you have to fish them out and attempt to herd them into an area where they can be retrieved and disposed of, all while yelling for help from your DH who has suddenly disappeared on a search for soccer socks. The disposal of waste, rinsing of clothes, final cleaning of baby while avoiding the remaining floaties is something that only mothers can sympathize with. Its a disgusting job, but somebody has to do it.
So, the rest of the day goes like this:
Matthew comes down with the croup that has been traveling around our ward. He sounds like an 80 year old woman who smokes 2 packs a day.
Evey refuses to sleep, unless you count the catnap to the soccer game, and the 15 minutes afterward in the stroller. This is not an effective nap in our house.
Maren, true to twin form, is the scheduled twin for the day, and remains true to the eating and sleeping schedule, except for bed time, when she flatly refuses to go to sleep. Sigh.
Evey goes to bed, after a major meltdown at 5:46 pm. So, I'm looking forward to a nice early morning with her tomorrow.
And, here's the topper. It's not as if I don't already need to clean the tub in the bathroom, so hey, might as well add the carpets too, right??
Matthew, exhausted from his smokers cough, falls into a deep sleep, only to be awakened an hour later with an intense need to go to the potty. Only he doesn't make it to the potty. He calls my name for help in the "bathroom", but when I arrive, I discover he is PEEING ON THE FOOTBOARD OF HIS BED!!!!! as if it were the toilet. He then proceeds to continue to go as I direct him to the REAL toilet, leaving a trail, albeit a short trail, down the hall and into the bathroom. A couple of drops make it into the real toilet. So, then, he cries because he is wet, suprise suprise. I make him sit on the side of the already mentioned tub, half naked while I dispose of clothes and attempt to follow the trail to its source and clean the mess. Then, I realize, he has peed right where the trundle bed is, so now I have to pull out the trundle bed, to limit the seepage. Tears from Matthew. Slight hysterical amusement mingled with disgust from moi. Some days I think its okay to question why you chose to be a mother. (Oh, yeah, and then I have to change my pj's because, I've just been kneeling in a pee trail. Ick!)
Guess Daddy gets to clean the carpets tomorrow. Sigh. Good thing I bought 2 half-gallons of ice cream at the store today...

second of all...if that song is stuck in my head from now on i'm disowning you as a sister.
Awww poor Matthew. But that would be a funny sight to walk in on. I hope he feels better and no one else comes down with it. If you ever need an ice cream eating buddy I'm just a phone call away.
oh dear, you poor thing!!! These things do not sound fun. They tell me that someday we'll miss these things...so keep laughing about them and just remember how "fun" it is. ha!!
Ugh! Yuck! Wa-wa-wa. I am so sorry for all of you. What a day! What else can be said?
When will this end?? It always seems to get worse no matter what you do. I am surprised you wrote it all down, days like that go into the black hole for me. Hope no more for you this month.:)
