its 10:30 and we are home from the hospital:

we have made it all the way back to las vegas. after an overnight stay with the Clark family and a stop at the Smith/Samuelsons in provo, we drove home with Matthew and Anna today. i'll keep this brief. Matthew is doing great. as well as can be expected. he will have somewhat of a long recovery. it seems his jaw might not have been fractured, but his skull fractures and inter-cranial trauma will take a while to heal. we have already noticed some changes in behavior--for better and for worse-- so this is definitely something that is an ongoing process. i just want to thank everyone for their prayers. anytime you can include matthews' continued recovery would be greatly appreciated. he was very brave, but naturally the sitution was somewhat traumatizing for a little 6 year old and he was very very happy to leave the hospital. we were too! i have so much to learn from this and so much that is already filling my mind that i can't even begin to write it. i just am so grateful for my testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ, for my family, and for our dear friends, but especially for a second chance to be a mother to my child. gratitude is a poor word to describe what i feel. thank you all again, we are going to lay low and start our rehab plans over the next couple of weeks. <3

Melissa, we have been praying for your sweet Matthew. Jerry's daughter works in neuro surgery at PCMC. We ALL prayed he wouldn't meet her! So glad you are back home, what a scary ordeal. I hope & pray that over the next few weeks your old Matthew is fully back!
