First Day of School

Matthew out to conquer 1st grade.

He's still obsessed with Egypt and recently brought home a book "All About Me" in which he wrote "I want to be an archeologist" and there was a picture of him, by the Nile, with a pyramid that he later informed me was "The Bent Pyramid" which is a real site as you can see. Frankly, sometimes his brain scares me.

He is very desirous to take violin lessons, however I am having a hard time tracking down someone that will come to the house, as it is impossible for us to go to them. If you know anyone...call me!

He has wierd 6 year old habits of biting his fingernails and sticking like 4 fingers in his mouth, and I swear I saw him chewing on his thumb the other day. Why? I don't know. But I'm feeling like these habits are putting him in a good position to bring home some fun germs, like, oh , I don't know, the Swine flu, or something like that. (wink)

He can get dressed and ready all by himself every day of the week, but on Sunday mornings, just when everyone is getting testy (you know it happens at your house too!) he always seems to be unable to put on his socks. Every. Sunday. With. the. socks. drives. me. crazy.

He is reading! And isn't it a joy to hear your children read and watch them learn! I love reading, so I hope he enjoys it as well.

He is my helper. This little boy really is a great older brother. He helps with his sisters so much. Mostly pulling them off of high altitude furniture whilst I am nursing the baby. We'll just pass over those times where he "helps" them by wrestling them to the ground or trapping them under things. After all, he is still a boy, and poor thing, he's got to teach his sisters to wrestle since he won't have any brothers to do it with.

He still says and does funny things that crack me up.:

First, I told him he could have whatever he wanted for dinner on Friday night at the end of our first week of school. He could pick something special to eat. Meanwhile, we went to the store like 3 times that week and I realized I had never had a response to what he wanted, nor did I have pizza ingredients, which I presumed he would request. So, I asked him Thursday night to tell me what special dinner he really wanted. He very excitedly requested "A tuna sandwich."

Second, he and his friend Tyler get in all of these funny little conversations driving the whole 2 minutes to school. One day Matthew made the declaration to me, "Mom, Tyler thinks that he is in charge of the whole world. But he is not. (pause) God is." That one you kinda had to be there for, but just the way he said it, so matter of fact.

Isn't it nice to just sit back and look at these funny little individuals and think, "I love that kid."
