HAWAII

So, in March we went to Maui as a family. It was FAN-TASTIC. Matthew loves to fly on planes, thankfully he's done it enough to behave, and he was soo excited to go. Lots of people in the security lines talked to him and asked him where he was going because he was so cute standing in line with his little Spiderman back-pack. He made a special DVD of Krypto the Superdog and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse that he got to watch on the computer. This, of course was heaven for him.

None of us had ever been to Hawaii before and it was gorgeous. Our hotel was a 5 star on Ka'anapali beach and it was full of tropical plants and birds. Matthew walked into the hotel and said, "Mom, it's beautiful!" he is so funny. Needless to say, we had a week of awesome food and lovely balmy weather. Quite a nice change from dry Las Vegas. We spent a lot of time at the kids pool with the waterslide and doing the usual touristy stuff. Walking the town, shopping and taking tours. Our best family outing was a whale watching tour where we saw 8 humpback whales and watched a pod chasing a female whale and vying for her affections. Being out on the water was great and we had perfect weather, so I managed not to have a seasickness problem. While Jes was at one of his medical conferences, Matty andI went on a submarine tour and watched divers bring all kinds of sea life up to the windows for us to look at. The highlight of the tour was seeing a sea turtle swim by! it was very exciting. The whole time Matthew wanted to see dolphins. Dolphins, dolphins, dolphins. Did we see any? No. Then all I wanted to do was sit on the beach. Beach, beach, beach. Did I get to? No. Do you know why? Because my child freaked out and screamed about the sand, so we all finally gave up. Hawaii without the beach--- sigh. At least the pool was wonderful. But, one person in our family did get to do what he wanted-- that would be Jes. He got to go scuba diving and swim with octopi and sea turtles right out in front of our hotel. Pretty cool. It was just a really great break from Vegas and a nice treat for our family. I can't remember eating so well! We're ready to go back anytime!
